If I could have elective surgeryI know - rhyming "heart" with "apart" - I'm quite the literary genius.
I'd want them to replace my heart;
One that stands the test of time
And wouldn't break whenever we're apart.
I think the idea of a heart as the mechanism that controls love is an interesting linguistic and metaphorical phenomenon. Obviously, everything is controlled by your brain, but maybe they were looking for an anatomical antithesis to logic, reason, and rationale. Or, perhaps, in the creation of human language, we realized that without a heart, we cannot live. And likewise, without love, we die.
Just a thought.

*tug* That's what you're doing to my heart strings...

If I could have elective surgery
I'd want them to replace my heart;
One that stands the test of time
And wouldn't break whenever we're apart.
Chorus:
Because when I was with you baby,
Everything just turned out right.
You were the corrective lenses,
I never wanted to take out at night.
And some people say that
Love is like an appendix
We're all born with it but some times
It can hurt you and make you sick.
I thought you might be my appendix
To complete me and close up my last chapter,
But you burned me bad
And threw away our happily ever after.
Chorus
So I'm off to see that wizard
To swap my heart for a clock.
It'll be my last reminder of you, because
You're so ticked off that now we never tock.
@Dru - We're gonna need to work on a melody, too. If there's no catchy chorus, the song is dead in the water!
