I heard this song in Ross, of all places. I twittered: "Would you want to know - months or years after-the-fact - that a friend was romantically in love with you and you weren't aware? Discuss." Me? It definitely depends on the relationship that we currently have. I wouldn't want to know someone felt that way if we were now good friends (note: good friends, but not close friends). With close friends, I won't mind knowing because once you get to "close friends" status, it's hard to lose it, regardless of the various drama that may come up.
Would I tell people? For the most part, no. I don't think most people can process this information clearly and detachedly, so I'd rather make the decision for them.
No, you will never know that at a point in time, I was head-over-heels about you and thought you were the most wonderful person on the planet and it made me smile just to know that you were nearby. So long.
